Colmers Rectory in Dorset is more a Bishop’s palace than a humble rectory, such is the scale and splendour of this Georgian gem. It evokes a bygone age while delivering on every essential for your luxury country break.

You can’t help but be charmed when you set eyes on the Dorset stone exterior, golden in the sunlight. Three storeys of panelled sash windows tell you there’s room for everyone and idyllic country views immediately soothe you. The interior décor - a modern take on British colonial - blends traditional elegance with a touch of playfulness, from wallpapers with dancing African elephants and heraldic lions, to carved mahogany furniture and green fronded plants.

Start your days over coffee and croissants in the cheerful kitchen before discovering the delights of this country-meets-coast hideaway, including the library games room with pool table. In calmer moments, sink into a leather armchair with a book or pick out a tune on the piano. Gather your tribe in the spacious drawing room, with sunlight streaming through tall sash windows in warmer months or the open fire keeping you cosy in autumn and winter.

With a choice of two kitchens, conjure up formal meals to be served in the large dining room. When the mood is more relaxed, fire up the barbecue on the veranda overlooking the gardens, for local sausages and burgers and G&Ts all round. Then get all the generations together for a game of croquet or boules.

Ready for bed? Head up the beautiful, curved staircase and, whether you’ve landed a king-size four-poster or your billet is a family room with trundle beds for the kids, expect style and comfort.

My wife had a wonderful birthday weekend at Colmers Rectory. All of our friends and family said how much of a great time they had also. The house was presented in excellent condition and had a lot of character. There was plenty to keep us occupied in the house as well as in the area...One of the most memorable evenings ended with some star gazing, given the lack of light pollution.

We booked this house for a celebration, with our life long friends. We had a marvellous time, in this beautiful old house, which enabled the 22 of us to have plenty of space to party and play together, whilst each of us had enough space in their own room to relax. The position of the property is ideal with a nice pub and a great craft centre two minutes away. All in all we could not have had a better time.

Colmers Rectory is ideally situated in a quiet rural village, with so much to see and do within a five-minute walk. There’s a wonderful village pub, farm shop, café, hair and beauty salon, art gallery and garden shop, clothes and jewellery, an animal park, pottery and more! The lovely market town of Bridport is less than two miles away by car while some of the fabulous beaches of the UNESCO listed Jurassic Coast are only five minutes’ drive away. Try Eype or West Bay (the latter famous for its starring role in the hit TV drama Broadchurch). Lyme Regis is also close by and offers a great day out.

We’ve tried to think about everything to make your stay at Colmers Rectory just perfect. In all of our big houses to rent, we provide all the essential features to cater for a large group. Situated in a quiet village location, surrounded by Dorset countryside, close to the market town of Bridport and less than two miles from the stunning Jurassic Coast.

What are the check in and check out times?

Check in is at 4pm on the day of your arrival and check out is at 10am.
How many cars can park at the property?

There is parking for 11 cars at Colmers Rectory. There is also plenty of road parking right in front of the house.
Are pets allowed?

2 well-trained dogs (aged 2-10) are allowed at Colmers Rectory. Dogs are only allowed in the downstairs areas.
Are children welcome?

Children are very welcome at Colmers Rectory. Two travel cots and two highchairs/bumbos are available on request (please bring your own cot linen). There is also one cot bed (sleeps a child up to 6 years old).
How many guests can sit at the dining table?

The dining room has 3 large foldable circular tables can seat up to 32 guests.
Are stag and hen parties allowed?

Hen parties are permitted but stag parties are not allowed.
Can I arrange a supermarket delivery to the house?

Yes, you can order online with Waitrose for a delivery direct to the house. We usually suggest booking a delivery for after 4pm on the day of arrival.
Can you recommend any local places to eat out?

There are two fabulous beaches just five minutes drive away - Eype and West Bay.
How private is the property?

Please note, the owners live in a self-contained wing of the house. This has completely private access, grounds and parking and has no shared facilities with the main house.
What is the nearest train station?

The nearest train stations are Crewkerne (12 miles), Axminster (13 miles) or Dorchester (17 miles).
What is the nearest airport?

The nearest airports are Exeter (33 miles), Bristol (72 miles) or Southampton (73 miles).
Will you hold a damage deposit during our stay?

Yes, we ask to hold a cautionary deposit of £1,000 during your stay at Colmers Rectory. This is requested just two weeks prior to your stay, and is returned shortly after, assuming no damage to the property or its contents (see our Booking T&Cs for more information).
