North of England
In the North you’ll find the Lake District, which is officially the UK’s most popular destination. It isn’t difficult to see why: its placid lakes and romantic fells have inspired poets, artists and writers for centuries. It’s just as easy to fall for Yorkshire, where the Dales and the Moors enchant with their lyrical beauty and cities like Leeds and Sheffield surprise and delight.
And then of course there’s historic Cheshire. The main city of Chester has a historic heart: it blends Victorian and Tudor architecture to arresting effect and is also surrounded by ancient Roman walls.
