VILLAGE LIFE IN A RUSTIC OXFORDSHIRE BARN CONVERSION

Recently renovated, Stourford Barn offers a clever, modern interpretation of rustic charm. With room for up to 12 guests, its open plan style creates a social space to cook, eat and kick back. If you’re the chef, stake your claim on the kitchen, with its polished concrete island, where your helpers can pull up a stool and chop, chat or pour the drinks. Serve up on the chunky dining table, then move along to the comfy seating area. Step up to the master living room, where a log burner keeps you cosy and the speaker system keeps things up to date. Flagstones connect the spaces, natural wood clads the walls and kitchen cabinets, and exposed beams speak of the building’s heritage. Light streams through Crittall doors and windows onto the double-height barn walls that delineate the spaces.

Spill out into the courtyard garden for drinks on the terrace or gather on the garden sofas, making the most of sunny days. Pretty gardens are bordered by the L-shaped barn and there’s a gas BBQ and a wood fired pizza oven for al fresco dining.

When it’s time for bed, the rooms all have king or super king beds. Two are on the ground floor, two on the first floor and two in a more private annex above the garage. The ground floor rooms have doors to the garden, and the mix of shared and ensuite bathrooms between them boast freestanding baths, walk in showers and luxury toiletries.

Pull your boots on in the glass entrance hall to walk round the village and explore the countryside, stopping off at the village pub. Further afield visit the Cotswolds, Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford.
